Taman Ujung Water Royal Palace Bali


In 1963 the location of Taman Ujung Water Royal Palace suffered close to demolition by showers of hot ashes that follow the eruption of nearby Mount Agung. In 1979 the location additionally underwent an earthquake. The complex of Taman Ujung went through a series of expansions and pool additions around a only one existing pool. This pool served as a site for penalty of accused proponents of th black magic or Balinese Sorcery called ‘pangiwa’ and ‘leaks’ instead of as a royal bathing place. The pool was called ‘Kolam Dirah’ and was said to have been created throughout the rule of the previous king of Karangasem in 1901. The Dirah pool is located in the southeastern corner of the recently layout and pick up its name from the witch queen of the Calonarang legend.

These days Taman Ujung Water Royal Palace is open for the public. It is recommended that treveler to the eastern parts of Bali visit Taman Ujung along their tour itineraries. This gives them memorials and scenic photo chances with the unique architectural features of Taman Ujung. A favourite lookout and high vantage point is at one of the ‘warak’ pavilions which was built on an eastern hill that is accessible from a 5 minutes drive uphill from the site.
